| John Burns, born 13 March 1765 born probably in either NC, SC or VA, and died 9 November 1841 in Marshall County, Tennessee. One of John\\\\\\\'s children remained in Anderson County, SC. Others moved to Marshall County, TN and Wayne County, TN; DeKalb County, AL; Etowah County, AL; Tishamingo County, MS; and into Texas counties of Fannin, Cooke, Collin, Gainesville and Shelby Counties. John married Mary Elizabeth Cunningham who was born in 1788 in either NC, SC or VA and died in Marshall County, Tennessee on 30 August 1866. The couple is buried side by side in the Blackwell-Joyce Cemetery between Chapel Hill and Holt’s Corner. Found documents say John\\\\\\\'s children number either 14 or 15. So far I have identified Connor, Samuel, Anderson, C. Hays, Cunningham, Merrimon, Equilla, Elizabeth, Leroy, John, George, William, Mary, Lucinda, and Robert. One female appears on the 1790 census that must have died in childhood. "William Doyle was a man of strong common sense and actually endowed with brilliancy of intellect. He was during all his life a constant reader and kept up with all political issues of the day.
His grandchildren now living can remember that he would sit for hours and read, sometimes put the book down and then take a hearty laugh over something he had read. He continued this habit of reading to the end of his long life.
He possessed many peculiar characteristics and his propensity for travel was indeed wonderfull; and he always made these journeys on foot. Making trips to Texas and other Western States, and returned home in this way after he was over seventy years old, saying he could see no sense in one riding when able to walk.
On one of these return he reached the house of a planter in Mississippi who was an old friend of his who remonstrated with him for taking such long walks, and insisted on selling him a good horse with saddle, blanket and bridle. Early the next morning William mounted his new purchase and rode away. By noon he was utterly disgusted, tired of riding, dismounted, threw the reins over his arm and walked all afternoon. On reaching another planter's home at nightfall, he stopped for the night, and being an impulsive man, he at once asked his host if he wanted to buy a good saddle horse. On the host replying that he did, the traveler sold him the horse for just what he paid, and said he never felt such a sense of relief in all his life, and in a most contented state of mind continued his journey a-foot.
During these long and oft repeated trips we may readily conclude that our grandmother Elizabeth is largely due the credit of having raised a large family and instilled into their natures principles of honor integrity.
On one occasion William Doyle was at a festive gathering of old friends at Pickens Court House and being called upon for a toast, he arose without hesitation and said "May avarice cease and virtue take its place", then took his seat without another word. This story is told to us by Andrew J. Lewis of Pendleton, S.C., who was also present as a guest on this occasion, and who was a life long friend of William Doyle.
William was fond of fishing and would sit hours in the latter days of his life on the banks of the Tugaloo River, patiently waiting for a bite."

Robert and family migrated from York Co, PA to Mecklenburg Co, NC in
1775. The location of their home in York County is now in Adams co, PA
which was formed later from York county and is not far from the town of
Gettysburg, PA. Arriving in Mecklenburg Co, NC they settled on a farm
on the south side of McAlpin's Creek. They were obviously among friends,
for most of the first settlers in that community were also from Lancaster
Co, PA. Roger Cunningham served as a constable in the county of
Mecklenburg.
The will of Roger Cunningham was signed by him on 02 Jan 1806. He died
on 21 Nov 1807. The will may be found on Will book "A", page 171. An
abstract of the will shows mention of the following members of the family:
